ENCHANTING COLOURS - Collection De Gambs & Marta Djourina

“ENCHANTING COLOUR” explores the creative possibilities of experimental colour photography from the 1940s to the present. It examines the enchanting—almost magical—qualities of colour and its ability to transcend reality.

The exhibition takes as its starting point the works of seven prominent figures in this medium, all of whom explored colour through diverse artistic processes and placed it at the forefront of their work. This selection of iconic works comes from the Collection De Gambs and spans various genres: fashion, nude, and experimental photography.

The works enter into a dialogue with the contemporary works of Berlin-based artist Marta Djourina (*1991, Sofia). Her abstract, colourful compositions are created without a camera, through direct exposure on light-sensitive analogue paper. This results in unique prints that occupy the space in a sculptural manner and combine a variety of experimental techniques.

Through this dialogue across time, the exhibition offers a vibrant contemporary echo of historical experimental colour photography and questions the boundaries of the medium.
